Greetings and Good Morning WHS. Some good questions have been coming in about Q3/Q4. The opportunity to raise your Q3 grade can only help you. It cannot hurt your Q3/S2 grades. There are no Q4 grades this year. This opportunity for Q3 is also voluntary. I strongly encourage ALL students to take advantage of this opportunity. Some could go from an F to a passing grade and get credit, others might want to raise a B to an A. Please work with your teachers. Thank you! Mr. Evans***

Greetings WHS Students & Families: Are you and/or your child interested in raising their 3rd quarter grade(s)? During this Distance Learning Opportunity time, all WHS students will have an opportunity to reach out to their teacher(s) to express their desire to raise their Q3 grade(s). Individual students will work out a plan/agreement to move forward during the closure to improve their Q3 grade(s). Students MUST must be the ones to reach out. Why improve Q3 grade(s)? This will be how WHS determines credit for semester 2 and because students did not have a chance to do so in the 4th quarter. Be Well. Mr. Evans***

Good evening, Falcon Families. This is Dr. Morrison, principal of WEMS, reaching out to thank you for continuing to be strong in the face of COVID-19 and for finding the energy to prioritize your children's learning during these challenging times. It was wonderful to see so many of you at meal pick-up today, eager to get schoolwork for your children. Please keep this up. Continue to come and pick up meals and work. Look for more information from your teachers about Google Classroom and online learning. Now, more than ever, you are our partners in ensuring that students continue to learn and make the most of this school year. I know that you have many questions for us. As we continue to get guidance from the Department of Education, we will inform you of it and always make decisions in the best interest of students. Despite the public health need to close Arizona schools, the entire WEMS staff is committed to serving you, our families, through this pandemic. Please be well and heed our governor's advice to stay home, stay healthy, and stay connected by checking in with our Facebook page and website at www.wusd2.org. Thanks and good night.

WHS SENIORS! Please read the message below re: Local Scholarships. Thank you! This message is for seniors who have local scholarship applications to turn in. There will be a new way for you to turn those in to the school and thus an extension of the due date for these to be in. You now have until Tuesday March 31st at 3:00 pm for us to receive these applications digitally. There will be no exceptions to this deadline. The applications should be sent to jpowers@wusd2.org (Mr. Powers). You can scan them and email them to me. I have been told that you can also scan them using your phone’s camera through the Adobe Scan app (free). I suggest you put a read and delivery receipt on your emails so you know Mr. Powers has read it and a follow up email would be a good idea too. Please send each application separately (different attachments in the same email titled with the sponsors name/organization of the scholarship). Do NOT send all applications in one single scan. Greetings WHS Families and Student Athletes: Please see the message below from the AIA: Arizona Governor Doug Ducey recently announced that all statewide schools will be closed through Friday, April 10. With this directive, the AIA and its Executive Board must abide by this decision and require that all AIA member schools not partake in interscholastic competition until further notified. The spring sports championships are still not cancelled at this point. However, discussions for the administration of any postseason tournaments will not take place until after schools are back in session. The AIA will continue to monitor the communications from the governor’s office and make decisions accordingly. In the meantime, we want all of our student-athletes, coaches and teachers to stay safe and follow all health department advisories.

Hello Falcon Families, We hope you are healthy, calm, and safe during this challenging time. Despite it officially being Spring Break, we know that our families are eager for guidance from their school. Our district leadership is actively working on a plan for meal distribution and for continuing your child's education during this school closure. Please be on the lookout for more specific information about that plan soon. Until then, we all know that children can be calmed by structure and routines. So, we encourage you to set aside time for reading and learning each day. Some of this learning can be real-world learning such as sewing a button, reading a billing statement together, or doing the laundry and cooking. It can also be free online learning through a cell phone, tablet, or computer. We will send a separate message to you today with some specific educational sites and apps. Finally, here's a link to some good ways to talk to your child about COVID-19: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/health/10-tips-for-talking-about-covid-19-with-your-kids WEMS is committed to your child's learning and overall well-being. Greetings from the WUSD Food Service Department. We want to take a moment to notify you that schools offer a nutritious breakfast starting at 7:30 AM and lunch each school day. The meals are offered according to your child’s approved meal status. Students can eat free, at a reduced rate, or full price. If you are not sure if your student qualifies for free or reduced meals, please feel free to contact Chris Sanders at any time Monday thru Thursday by calling 1-928-635-4428 ext. 124 or email csanders@wusd2.org. Our lunch ladies have noticed there are some students not eating during the day, so we are reaching out to parents to help us by encouraging their children to eat at school. Studies have found students that eat healthy meals perform better in school. We look forward to serving healthy nutritious meals to all students in accordance with the National School Lunch Programs (NSLP) guidelines. Please visit our Food Service page for meal application and pricing. https://www.wusd2.org/o/wusd/page/food-service--222

SCHOLARSHIP INFO: 1) Coconino First Scholarship: This scholarship is offered by NAU and is exclusively for students from Coconino County who are incoming freshmen. It is worth $2,000 and will be awarded at the rate of $1,000 a year for the first 2 years. What is great is that all a student has to do is be accepted to NAU and they will automatically receive this. 2) Arizona Teacher’s Academy. This is through NAU, U of A, and ASU. Graduates of the Arizona Teachers Academy who agree to teach in Arizona will have their tuition and fees waived in exchange for a commitment to teach in an Arizona public school. The requirement is that they commit to teach in an Arizona school for the same amount of years that they get the tuition waived. Information for this is on the Governor’s website at: https://education.azgovernor.gov/edu/arizona-teachers-academy

Senior parents/guardians: Williams High School is sponsoring a FAFSA or Free Application for Federal Student Aid night tomorrow Wednesday October 16th from 5-7 pm at the high school. Seniors & their parents/guardians can fill out this free application to see if they qualify for federal student aid for ANY University, Community College, or Trade School. It takes about 20 minutes to fill out & results are immediate. We have a FAFSA expert coming to help and offer guidance on filling this out. Please bring a copy of your taxes from 2018. There is an IRS retrieval tool built into the on line application but it is always a good idea to bring a paper copy. FAFSA money can be used at many different schools or training centers. I recommend that all parents and students fill this out just to see if they qualify and how much they qualify for. We hope to see you all there.

Can't wait to see all of our Falcon Families this Thursday, August 15th at the Open House! It starts at 5:00 p.m. with a potluck in the cafeteria. Elementary classrooms open at 5:15 p.m. Middle school families can experience being a "middle schooler for a day" by attending their child's classes for 10 minutes each, starting at 5:20 p.m. Come learn about your child's education, meet teachers, and have an ice cream sundae before you leave. If you can, please bring a dish to share. Thanks and see you this Thursday!

Forensic Scientist Kristin Dick was a guest teacher in Mrs. Mitkowski’s social studies classes today. Mrs. Dick talked to every class about the skills she uses in her job and what kind of education is needed to pursue a career in forensics. She then helped the students “break the codes” to clues in an escape room activity. The kids really soared and impressed our guest with their thoughtful questions and the warm welcome to WEMS!
