Dear Parents and Guardians,
It’s beginning to look like that time of year again. Cold & Flu Season! As such, we wanted to share some quick reminders to help keep our students, staff, and families well. Our school follows general guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS), and Coconino County Health and Human Services (CCHHS)—while also trusting families to make the best decisions for their own children.
Every year, viruses like colds, the flu, and COVID-19 circulate in our communities. Below is a summary of current recommendations and best practices that supports both student health and uninterrupted learning.
When Should My Child Stay Home?
As always, we ask that students stay home from school when they have:
A fever of 100.4°F or higher
Ongoing severe cough, sore throat, or congestion
Vomiting or diarrhea within the last 24 hours
Fatigue or other symptoms that prevent normal participation in class
Your child can return to school once they are fever-free for 24 hours without medication, and their overall condition is improving.
We understand that each family knows their child best, and we encourage you to use your judgment when deciding whether they are well enough to attend school.
Current COVID-19 Guidance (CDC & Arizona)
The CDC recommends staying home until symptoms improve and the student has been fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication.
Masking for 5 days after returning is recommended by the CDC, but masking is not required.
If your child is immunocompromised or has special health considerations, please consult
your healthcare provider for additional guidance.
Coconino County Health Department (CCHHS) Recommendations
The CCHHS Health and Wellness Clinic in Flagstaff offers flu and COVID-19 vaccinations on a voluntary basis. Walk-ins are welcome. Vaccinations are encouraged but not required.

What You Can Do at Home
Regardless of illness type, here are a few practical ways to help reduce the spread of germs:
Encourage frequent handwashing, especially after bathroom use
Remind children to direct coughs and sneezes into their elbows
Keep students home if they’re not feeling well
Teach children to be respectful of others’ personal space and health needs
Stay in Touch
If your child is staying home due to illness, please notify the school office by 4pm to ensure the absence is excused.
Thank you for supporting us in creating a healthy learning environment for all. As always, we appreciate your support, your trust, and the opportunity to care for your children during the school day.
Please reach out if you have any questions or need assistance.
Sincerely,
